My 13 month old is confusing.
He doesn't point, nod or shake his head. If I ask him to give me something (i.e, the keyes he's holding) he doesn't get it. If I use a gesture, however, he gets it. He says "Go" (as in let's go) and "Mama" (but indiscriminately, and he's definitely not referring to me) that's the extent of his vocabulary. He recently (in the past 2 weeks) learned how to wave and clap his hands. Also, in the past 2 weeks he also started babbling. Before that there was SOME cooing, but he was pretty quiet. And his babbling is limited to "cacacacaca". Also, he doesn't seem to be very responsive. If you call him and he's engaged, he's not going to look up or anything. He *might* say "huh?" (or at least that's what it sounds like)
Other then that, he's developping pretty much on target.
Still, I had his hearing checked and when that came back normal he has an assesment done for autism (ADOS) which basically stated that wasn't the issue, but did point to communication delays.
I was told to find a speech pathologist who specializes in communication delays in infants. I've been trying to find information on this, but I can't find anything online.
What is it? what can be done for it? where can I find resources?
