Hi there,

I have been doing some research for the past few weeks, and posted on this board last week regarding my 2 1/2 year old who isn't really speaking any words yet.

Some of the research I looked at mentioned trying a dairy-free and/or gluten-free diet. After talking with DS's teachers, we decided to try eliminating dairy products for now, to start. He also has chronic ear infections, which has been linked to dairy products, and since we are on a long waiting list for EI, I figured we could try it.

So, it's been a week, I switched him to soy milk for his cereal, etc., and took him off off all cheese and yogurt. In this past week, he's said 3 WORDS!! :-) He now waves and says "bye-bye" and whatever he's waving too (before he would just wave). He also said "grandpapa" to his grandfather (we both heard it), and he started saying "yeah yeah yeah" again (for yes), which he used to say but then regressed. He has also started to mimic more sounds, like the vacuum cleaner and trying to copy me singing, which he never did before. It's so nice to hear :-)

I just ordered the Nordic Naturals Omega 3-6-9 Junior online (can't buy it here in Canada) and the liquid Choline, I'm going to start him on that as well.

I know this won't work in all cases, but I just thought I'd share our experience so far. Our family Dr doesn't think he has a milk allergy, since he doesn't have other symptoms, but I still think he could have a dairy sensitivity, which could be affecting him. I'm at least willing to try changes in diet to see if it will help. I will keep you up to date.

Thanks :-)
Olivia

Where did you order your nordic natural's from? I am also in Canada and can't find it anywhere.

Thanks

Hi,
have also just changed my son to dairy free diet- he'd been on a low dairy diet since birth but when we tried to introduce cows milk 2 months ago his speech and sensory skills massively regressed. Fully dairy free now and he's a different child- speech and babble showing signs of improving and much more vocal mimicking! Mightn't be answer 4 everyone but worth a shot!
